SCOTTISH WILDMAN FROM DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY

Evidence for a "bipedal hominid creature" was reported yesterday by Robert Shankland to The Scottish Sun newspaper.

The 56 yr old part time laborer and gardener has spent two years seaching for the elusive Scottish sasquatch and was rewarded for his efforts with the discovery of a 14 in. footprint found in the Galloway Forest Park.

Shankland begain researching after hearing Charmaine Fraser, part of the British Bigfoot Research team at a conference in Glasgow two years ago.

"She saw the creature as a child and I just started to think about it. I decided to see what I could find in my local area and I didn't expect to find anything at all. I couldn't believe it when I came across the footprint."

He has also highlighted part of the footprint in order to show what he believes are pressure points on the ground and those that show the curve of its heel.

"There have been multiple reports of sightings across the country. I sent the pictures to the British Sighting reports and they were very excited. We're still looking for absolute proof."

He also states that he took other photos of the area and has one that may show something staring out from the trees.

"I actually didn't realize it was there until I got home and looked at the pictures. I just noticed this thing in the background and zoomed in. I don't know what it was, but it was absolutely something."

A search of British bigfoot groups and the internet failed to find a copy of this photograph. It may not be available while it is being examined.

"My own research is based solely on a flesh and blood type of being at the moment. However, some sightings suggest that it acts in a way without normal reality."

Shankland shared his working theories with the press. He feels that they could be using a "green corridor" of woods to travel between the southwest of Scotland and the Cairngorms.

"New Galloway and the surrounding area is a green corridor, if you look at it on a map -- it's just a huge space of wilderness. Maybe the creature is traveling through on the way up to the highlands?"

He added that he believes it is a "feral" offshoot of a human. It reaches a size around 6 1/2 to 7 feet tall and will measure around 4 feet across the shoulders.

"One of the most common suggestions is what we are dealing with is a humanoid ancestor from the distant past, a sort of pre-historic cousin of ours which has managed to survive, and still survive, up until the present day. How? None quite knows."

Shankland then adds : "No one will ever know for sure until definitive proof of its existence is found."

"I'll spark the thought; what you do with it is up to you."
